Disney+: you will never find the link between this new action series and… Thierry Lhermitte!

The “True Lies” series, adapted from James Cameron’s blockbuster itself inspired by the French film “La Totale”, arrives today on Disney+!

Almost thirty years after the release of the film, the True Lies series finally arrives on our screens. This Disney+ novelty (shown in the United States on the CBS channel) is the remake of the 1994 action film directed by James Cameron, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once), Jamie Lee Curtis.

This action-comedy follows the adventures of Harry Tasker, a seemingly boring family man who operates in secret as a special agent for the US government. The truth will eventually be revealed, while a terrorist group will attack his family!

True Lies has the particularity of being the remake of a French film! In The Total! directed by Claude Zidi, the role of Schwarznegger was played by Thierry Lhermitte, while his wife (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the remake) is interpreted by Miou-Miou!

While the French version puts more emphasis on the humorous side of the story, its American remake allowed itself many liberties with the story to link the spectacular action scenes.

A few years ago, Claude Zidi and James Cameron found themselves in the dock, due to a complaint filed by screenwriter Lucien Lambert. The scenario of La Totale! indeed has many points in common with a script called Emilyadapted for the theater and translated into English in the early 1980s.

On June 4, 2004, the Paris Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the screenwriter, condemning Claude Zidi and James Cameron for “counterfeit”. Not having been able to know that the film of which he was shooting the remake was plagiarism, the Canadian filmmaker did not have to pay any money, since Claude Zidi was ordered to pay both parts of damages to Lucien Lambert .

The True Lies series can be discovered now exclusively on Disney+.
