This Tuesday, July 11, the Banque de France’s Payment Methods Security Observatory (OSMP) also published its annual report on payment method fraud. The total amount of the fraud has reached 1.19 billion euros in 2022down 4%.

THE credit card fraud represented last year 464million euros. A stable amount thanks to the application throughout 2022 of strong authentication rules for transactions carried out on the Internet, explains the OSMP. The average amount of card fraud observed in 2022 is 63 euros.

As a reminder, banks are often reluctant to reimburse their customers when fraud is proven, particularly with the bogus adviser scam.

In this context, the Banque de France has issued 13 recommendations in order to establish a clear framework for processing requests for reimbursement of fraudulent transactions. The application of the recommendations will be monitored by the Prudential Control and Resolution Authority (ACPR).
