DJI launches the Osmo Mobile 6, a new version of its stabilizer for smartphones

DJI, the world leader in civilian drones, also does accessories. He is now launching the Osmo Mobile 6, a new version of stabilizer for smartphones, and announces that he has improved the recipe. “In addition to improved usability and compatibility with larger phones, the Osmo Mobile 6 features DJI’s 3-axis stabilization, all-new Quick Launch and ActiveTrack 5.0”says the manufacturer in its press release.

The Osmo Mobile 6 sports a new ergonomic handle and a wider flange to accommodate all phones, even with their case. Weighing just over 300 g, it also has an integrated extension bar, a tool obviously designed for taking selfies or trying out more unusual shots, such as those at ground level. The stabilization is carried out thanks to three motors and the very usual DJI algorithms.

The Osmo Mobile 6 comes with a new Quick Launch feature for iPhone users. Once unfolded, attaching an iPhone to the stabilizer automatically triggers the Mimo app alert to instantly access the camera view. The preparation time is thus reduced. Featuring an improved version of ActiveTrack from DJI, aka ActiveTrack 5.0, the Osmo Mobile 6 would thus offer “more stable tracking over longer distances” and would allow the front camera to “track subjects turning sideways or twirling”.

Thanks to the new integrated status panel and the Mode button, checking the battery level and changing from one of the four Gimbal modes to another is easier. By quickly pressing the M button, the user can switch between Follow Mode (the camera view follows the pan and tilt movements of the gimbal and stays level during rolls), Tilt Lock Mode ( the camera view only follows the panning movement of the gimbal), the FPV mode (the three axes of the gimbal follow the movement of the handle) and the SpinShot mode (controlling the rotation of the camera view).

Zoom and focus control is reportedly made smoother with a new side wheel. Finally, unsurprisingly, the Osmo Mobile 6 includes a number of smart features such as Timelapse, Motionlapse and Hyperlapse, but also DynamicZoom, Gesture Control, Panorama modes and Story Mode.
