DJI Mic 2: the favorite microphone of content creators is changing

The Chinese manufacturer returns with its ready-to-use and all-in-one audio recording solution, while taking the opportunity to improve its recipe.

DJI no longer needs to be presented. The manufacturer of drones and camera stabilizers has gradually expanded its range to address the most demanding professionals as well as the most daring amateurs.

If the brand is very recognizable today, it is because it has been able to focus on the ease of use of its products, without sacrificing quality, at least as far as possible. And, that’s exactly what we find in the company’s new microphone.

Why revolutionize a formula that already works very well?

When it comes to acquiring audio visual equipment, things can quickly become quite complicated, expensive and laborious. Fortunately, a few devices exist to make life easier for content creators, and the DJI Mic 2 falls into that category.

It’s an all-in-one solution, consisting of a receiver, up to two transmitters, a charging case similar to those used by wireless earbuds, and various adapters and accessories. In fact, DJI uses the format of its first DJI Mic, with the same ease of use: easy pairing between the different components of the device, a range of 250 meters between them and retention of an OLED touch screen of 1, 1 inch on the receiver (which fortunately always comes with a dial).

If we are still dealing with omnidirectional microphones, perfect for voice capture, for example, the company also announces nearly 14 hours of recording without compression in 48 kHz, 24 bits thanks to its 8 GB of storage. In terms of autonomy, the transmitters and receivers promise to last six hours without needing to return to their charging case. The latter ensures a total autonomy of 18 hours before having to be plugged in.

Some nice improvements

The accessories supplied with the DJI Mic 2 make it just as versatile as its predecessor, thanks to the various 3.5mm jack, USB-C and Lightning adapters, as well as its magnetic mounting system. The company also offers an optional lavalier microphone (€39), in case the included transmitters are not discreet enough, and above all adds a more than welcome Bluetooth connectivity, usable with any smartphone, computer or device equipped with this technology.

However, the interesting new features of the DJI Mic 2 should be looked elsewhere. The company has taken the liberty of adding a noise reduction feature, intended to attenuate ambient noise “ in busy urban areas or crowded rooms “. She also had the good idea of ​​allowing the recording of backup tracks at -6 dB in addition to the main tracks, in order to protect against possible unwanted audio level peaks. It remains to be seen what this will look like on the ground.

The DJI Mic 2 is already available for sale on the manufacturer’s website at a price of €349 in its most complete configuration, and €219 for a pack including only a transmitter and a receiver. Or a few additional tickets if we compare it to the previous model. The icing on the cake is that DJI is offering pearly white transmitters this year, sold separately at the price of… €99.
