During an interview, Cole Hauser, who plays Rip in “Yellowstone”, returned to his first, totally improbable meeting with the creator of the series, Taylor Sheridan.
Everyone agrees to emphasize the quality of Cole Hauser’s performance in Yellowstone. However, the latter has little in common with Rip, the character he plays in the western series. Originally from California, the 49-year-old actor spent a golden youth within a veritable family cinema dynasty.
Two totally opposite trajectories
Son of the couple formed by actor Wings Hauser and director Cass Warner, Cole Hauser is also the grandson of screenwriter Dwight Hauser and the great-grandson of the legendary Harry Warner, co-founder of Warner Bros. studios. Encouraged by his father to become an actor, he took his first castings as a teenager, and abandoned his studies at the age of 16 to begin a full-time career in cinema.
A trajectory totally opposite to that of his character in Yellowstone, an orphan taken in by John Dutton and hardened by life on the ranch among cowboys. But Rip and his interpreter have in common their old-fashioned way of life, that of tough men more determined to resolve conflicts with fists rather than words.
This philosophy of life is also that of the creator of the series Taylor Sheridan, a pure Texan raised on his grandparents’ ranch. The first meeting between Cole Hauser and Sheridan testifies to their respective strong characters, since the two men fought against each other!
“I don’t like to talk”
During an interview with the men’s magazine Men’s Journal, the American actor spoke about the incident. Although he does not reveal the causes of this fight, the latter believes that this behavior is not abnormal in his eyes, quite the contrary. “That’s what men do.” he said, adding that he has been involved in fights on just about every continent.
“I don’t see what’s wrong with fighting.”he added, a line that Rip could definitely say in Yellowstone. “I don’t like to talk, so we might as well take the piss out of each other. And in the end you buy me a beer and I buy you one back, and then it’s is all.”
We understand better why Taylor Sheridan considered Cole Hauser as his one and only choice to play Rip. To the great dismay of Josh Lucas, a long-time friend of the latter, who had to resolve to portray another emblematic character of Yellowstone…
