DLC secrets discovered in the original game

Only a few months left until the release of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree DLC. Fans have already spotted several clues that would help decipher one of its secrets.

Only a few months left before the release of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree DLC, which will certainly restore interest in the FromSoftware title. Expected for June 21, this new adventure promises to be gargantuan and will take us to a new environment. The player will meet Miquella, the brother of Malenia, known as the most formidable of the Empyreans. Unfortunately, we still know relatively little about the story of this additional content. But that clearly didn’t stop fans from investigating. It could well be that everything has actually been under our noses all along.

The ultimate secret of Elden Ring? It’s possible !

As previously stated, we don’t really know where this DLC will take us. However, you couldn’t miss Messmer, an enigmatic character, revealed thanks to the expansion’s collector’s item, which is dedicated to him. For fans, everything suggests that he will be at the center of the story of The Shadow of the World Tree. He could even potentially be the final boss. Unless FromSoftware releases yet another surprise enemy, like at the end of Elden Ring, when everything led us to believe that Malenia would be the ultimate adversary before the launch of the game. For the moment, we still know very little about him, except that he is nicknamed the impaler. This is a direct reference to the historical character Vlad the Impaler, who inspired Dracula. On his figurine, as well as in the trailer, we see him with a spear and snakes (which will be important later).

But who is this mysterious character ? For fans, it’s pretty clear: it could be one of the children of the Goddess Marika and Radagon. And therefore the brother of Melania and Miquella. Here too, there are no real clues, except her red hair and the more sustained presence of Miquella in this new story. Additionally, his throne is identical to that of the other demigods. His personal history is still very mysterious, but fans speculate that he led an attack on Marika, before hiding in the Shadowlands. Moreover, when we enter the World Tree, we can see a statue of the goddess, pierced with a scarlet spear. This seems to support this theory. However, Messmer has never been mentioned in Elden Ring until now… well, that’s what we thought until then.

What if Messmer was already there under our noses

The name Messmer has never been found in Elden Ring, but its symbols are very numerous. We can particularly talk about the user cudakid210a, who made a funny discovery about “The Shield of the Candelabra”. On it, a candlestick with 7 branches is represented, mixed with a tree. His description is also interesting: “Considered as the symbol of an intolerable and prophetic capital sin, this tree emblem represented in the form of a candelabra was strictly prohibited.”

The link with Messmer is not very clear, but for the user it reminds him of the candles which constantly surround him in the trailer. The capital sin mentioned would also refer to Messmer, but especially to his absence in Elden Ring. “The fact that the candelabra is linked to a secret prophecy mleads one to think that Messmer was erased from Mid-Earth mythology due to his sin. He would then be a sort of antichrist figure”he explains.

A second clue has been spotted, this time by YouTuber eldencaofr, on the Putrid Duelists. This gladiator-looking monster sports the red color of putrefaction. But above all he is able to fight thanks to his arm which transforms into a snake. The videographer immediately makes the connection with Messmer and his snakes (which we mentioned above). He thinks that these creatures could be soldiers of the mysterious character, because they have the same symbols. Yes, it’s still pretty thin, but in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s very thoughtful universe, anything is possible.

Before finding the Shadow of the World Tree DLC, which will be available by June 21 on PS5, Xbox Series, PC, PS4 and Xbox One, you can already catch up or get a new run on Elden Ring which is already available on all the platforms already mentioned.
