Beware of scam! A new scam campaign is circulating on the phones of the French. As Paris-Normandy details, on January 5, fraudulent SMS messages circulated affirming that the CPAM must reimburse you a sum of several hundred euros. The text promises: “After the last calculations for the exercise of your activity, we inform you that you have a reimbursement of 642 euros”. An announcement far too good to be true.
Thus, when the victim clicks on the link accompanying the SMS, a form asks him to fill in his bank and personal details. What you should not, of course, especially not do. Indeed, banks and state services never ask their customers to provide personal information by email or SMS, recalls the media. The most appropriate attitude is to delete this message and especially not respond to it. If in doubt, you can call your Primary Health Insurance Fund to verify the facts.
Free customers affected
Fake SMS scams are common in France. Free Mobile subscribers must also be vigilant with a message circulating among the operator’s customers. The SMS in question claims that “suspicious activity” was detected on the account and that an “agent attempted to contact”. The victim is then asked to identify himself “on freeverif.myftp.org”. Once the link is opened, the crooks try to recover the username and password of the targeted customer, by making him fill out a form that seems quite classic.

Faced with these repeated scams, it is advisable to always check the address or the contact of the sender, to remain very vigilant on the syntax, the spelling or the design of the sites on which you are redirected.
