Do you miss the 2000s? Turn your iPhone into an iPod

An application allows you to transform your iPhone into an iPod. Thanks to it, you can find the same interface and the same central wheel when you listen to music on your phone – without having the disadvantages.

Remember: the 2000s, the shimmering colors of all tech objects, the musical debut of Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga and… iPods. Apple’s MP3 players were once one of the trendiest and most valuable tech items to sport.

Their distinctive colors and especially the famous central wheel have remained forever in the history of design, marking a whole generation of owners. Nearly 20 years after its debut, Apple has sold more than 420 million iPods, and the name and design of these products remain widely known.

Today, none of the iPod models are on sale: Apple stopped selling its last iPod Touch in May 2022, to the chagrin of fans of the object. But, rest assured: an app allows you to find the look of the iPod, while remaining on your iPhone.

An app brought up to date by TikTok

The app is called RetroPod, and it’s only available on the App Store. Impossible to find the magic of iPods if you have a smartphone running on Android (at least, for now). Retro Pod also only works on the Apple Song Library, and is not compatible with music streaming sites like Spotify or Deezer.

Once installed, the app provides a rather incredible illusion: it displays the same interface as the iPods, the same central wheel, the same display of songs and album covers. All that’s missing is your old college playlist (don’t be ashamed of your Avril Lavigne period), and everything would be almost as it was.

RetroPod has been around for a long time, but has seen an impressive resurgence in popularity since the start of 2023 thanks to TikTok. Videos of users turning their shiny new iPhones into iPods have met with significant success, and have brought this old technological ancestor back to the fore – much to our delight.
