Do you plan to put your driving license on your smartphone?

The driving license on a smartphone is now official, possible and widespread throughout France. Does this tempt you? Or will you prefer to keep your good physical document? This is the subject of our survey of the week.

After several months of testing in a few hand-picked French departments, the smartphone driving license is now a reality for everyone. The news was made official on February 13 by The Parisian. This document can be found in the France Identity application, available on iOS and Android, in the “Portfolio” tab.

The advantage is that it can be consulted without even needing an internet connection – practical for white areas. While it will not replace our physical documents, it is a certified copy of an administrative document. It is therefore also considered proof of online identity.

Concretely, how will this happen? With their new NEO smartphones equipped with an NCF chip, the police will simply be able to scan your digital driving license. And presto, that’s it. No more searching for and taking out your physical license, entering the number, etc. In short, the procedure is simplified and faster.

Only one condition exists: having an electronic identity card (CNIe), which more than 17 million French people already have.
