Doctor Strange 2: What are the Illuminati in the Marvel Comics?

In the Marvel Comics, the Illuminati are a superhero association of what are probably the most intelligent superheroes on earth. It’s a think tank compared to the Avengers. It discusses what is happening and how threats should be dealt with.

How the Illuminati are brought into “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is unclear. Compared to the comics, the Illuminati in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will be more of a superhero group observing the multiverse rather than Earth.

Because of this, Doctor Strange is also led to them as a prisoner, as seen in the trailer. So the members of the Illuminati could be composed of different universes.

Doctor Strange 2: Who is part of the Illuminati in the Marvel Comics?

In the comics, the most famous members of the Illuminati are Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Beast, Black Panther, Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man, Namor, Professor X and Captain America. It should be noted that it varies by comic book era and epoch, after all, since 2005, the Illuminati have appeared in various Marvel stories and constellations.

In the first appearance of the Illuminati, the members and thus also the founders are Namor, Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange and Professor X. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will likely refer to these six members.

Doctor Strange 2: Which Illuminati Members Will Star In The Film?

Professor X (Patrick Stewart)

there sir Patrick Stewart has all but confirmed its appearance and the Illuminati are officially in the film, it is clear that Professor X, leader of the X-Men, will be part of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange 2. Patrick Stewart hasn’t played the role since 2017’s Logan.

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)

that another Variant of Doctor Strange is also part of the Illuminati is also quite likely. However, we assume that the Strange variant is already dead. In the trailer, we were able to see a statue depicting Doctor Strange, so we assume the Illuminati erected a monument in his honor.

Since, according to the trailers, Master Mordo works for the Illuminati and addresses our Doctor Strange as “Stephen”, we can also assume that the Doctor Strange variant is a variant that also looks like Benedict Cumberbatch.

Tony Stark aka Iron Man (rumored to be Tom Cruise)

Rumors have been circulating for a long time that Tom Cruise as a variant of Tony Stark aka Iron Man will occur. It’s unconfirmed, but based on the Ultron drones that Strange takes as a prisoner before the Illuminati, we can actually assume that Tony Stark will be part of the Illuminati as Ultron’s creator.

Mr. Fantastic (rumored to be John Krasinski)

Ever since Disney bought Fox, fans have been just waiting for the Fantastic Four to come to the MCU. A Fantastic Four movie from Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has already been announced. Stars have not yet been confirmed. However, rumor has it that John Krasinski as Mr Fantastic to be seen and to have its first appearance in “Doctor Strange 2”.

The Illuminati would make relatively little sense without Mr. Fantastic, so we’re assuming that’s where the Fantastic Four’s resilient leader will make his appearance. Whether it will be Krasinski or perhaps Ioan Gruffudd from the 2005 film “Fantastic Four” remains to be seen.

Namor (rumored to be Tenoch Huerta)

at Namor is the Marvel counterpart to DC’s Aquaman. Namor is rumored to appear in Black Panther 2 and by the Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta to be embodied. A guest appearance in “Doctor Strange 2” as part of the Illuminati would be quite possible.

Black Bolt (Anson Mount)

The last member of the founding squad would be Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans. This was also introduced in the MCU, in the unpopular series “Inhumans”. However, with Disney wanting to forget the series, we don’t expect Black Bolt to return.

On the other hand, Black Bolt actor enjoys AnsonMount currently very popular. The star returns to the Star Trek universe as Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. So will Disney have mercy and bring him back? We will see!

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will start in German cinemas on May 4, 2022. Until then, you can watch Moon Knight on Disney+. The series “Ms. Marvel” will follow in June and “Thor: Love and Thunder” will start in cinemas in July. We list you all Marvel new releases!
