Doctor Strange 2: what universe does America Chavez come from?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduces a new character, America Chavez, who has come from an unknown world and has mastered travel between universes. But where does it really come from?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by Sam Raimi gives pride of place to the relationship between Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff, but also introduces a new character in the MCU, played by Xochitl Gomez. Her name is America Chavez, and she arrives in the Marvel Universe with powers beyond her control, hoping for help from Doctor Strange.

We learn little about her past, except at the turn of a short scene, in which we discover that America comes from an aesthetically very particular universe in which she was raised by two mothers. However, this place is not named in the feature film.

If the details aren’t provided by the film, they will no doubt be explored in an upcoming Marvel feature film or series. However, if the MCU aligns with the comics, America Chavez comes from the Utopian Parallel, or Utopia parallel in French. It is not strictly speaking a universe, but rather a timeless and somewhat special dimension of the multiverse.

Parallel Utopia

Utopia is populated only by women. It is said to have been created by the Demiurge, a source in the biosphere to which Earth owes the birth of most of the Elder Gods. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, however, stands out from the comics young avengerssince the latter tell that America’s mother sacrificed herself to protect Utupie from her inclusion in the ordinary multiverse.

The feature film of Sam Raimi preferred to invent that America, not mastering her powers, sent her mothers into the multiverse unwittingly. She therefore bears the guilt of having led her mothers into an unknown and very potentially dangerous world, which Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) tries to temper at the end of the film.

America Chavez in the MCU

As for America Chavez herself, in the comics she is “Miss America”, whose main power is her ability to open magical star-shaped doors leading to other universes. She becomes the best friend of Kate Bishop (character presented in the Hawkeye series) and a leading heroine member of several superhero teams.

Still in the comics, one of the sons of Wanda alias the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) is Wiccan, a comrade in arms of Miss America, who we learn is the future incarnation of the Demiurge.

As for Doctor Strange 2, still in theaters, here are the Marvel films and series to catch up on to find out everything before going to see it in the cinema:
