The British broadcaster BBC One has had the new edition of the cult series “Doctor Who” in its program since 2005. Since then, four actors and one actress have starred in the legendary role of the Doctor, who travels through time and space. “Broadchurch” star Jodie Whittaker has played the Doctor since 2017 and will step down from the role after this year.
But how will the regeneration of the 13th Doctor work? There is some speculation about this, which you can read more about here. In the fifth episode of season 13, the Doctor reunites with Tecteun (Barbara Flynn), a ruthless scientist from her home planet of Gallifrey. Tecteun tempts the Doctor to retrieve her previously stolen memories.
For that she would have to open the Chameleon Arch where the memories are located. However, the Doctor decides against it and takes the Chameleon Arch into the TARDIS, where she hides it well after the flux attack. In the upcoming Season 13 special, opening the Chameleon Arch could lead to the Doctor’s next regeneration.
Perhaps the accumulated memories inside are too much for the Doctor, so her regeneration is initiated. However, it could also be that Tecteun has built a trap into the technology that will kill Jodie Whittaker’s character, ushering in the age of the 14th Doctor. Another possibility: The Master allies with the Daleks and the Cybermen and brings the Doctor to his knees.
Whatever the outcome of the 13th Doctor’s life, a continuation of the series is assured. The next season of the sci-fi series will be released in 2023, in which “Sex Education” star Ncuti Gatwa will be seen as the first Black Doctor ever.
