Doctor Who: we finally know when the new season will be released on Disney+

The BBC and streaming service Disney+ have finally announced the return date of Doctor Who on the small screen. Fans rejoice: the new season of this cult series will begin at the same time in all four corners of the globe on May 11.

New Doctor for a new era

It was at one o’clock in the morning in France that fans of Doctor Who will be able to discover the first episode of this new season on Disney+. Russell T. Davis, who previously helmed the show and is returning as showrunner, said:

“I finally have the great pleasure of launching a brand new season of the adventures of the Doctor and Ruby. With monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that has spanned time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!”

Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education) took command of the TARDIS from Doctor Who at the end of the 60th anniversary of the series, which was the subject of three special episodes broadcast last November on the BBC in the United Kingdom and Disney+ internationally. His arrival on the show marks the start of a new era in the history of this monument of British television, which is getting a facelift and resetting the clock.

The new season which arrives on May 11 is therefore described as season 1 of Doctor Who (2023)the previous versions being Doctor Who (1963) And Doctor Who (2005). The series thus offers a new entry point to those who do not know it but would like to immerse themselves in its universe.

For these new episodes, Gatwa will star Millie Gibson (Coronation Street) in the guise of his travel partner, Ruby Sunday. However, the actress will not be by his side for very long because we already know that she will give way to Varada Seethu in the following season.

New adventures and new guests

Who says Doctor Who known as space-time travel and multiple encounters. The images of this new season revealed so far have suggested that the Doctor and Ruby will travel through the Regency, the 70s, new extra-terrestrial worlds… and will even say hello to the Beatles.

Several guest actors will therefore cross paths with the Doctor in these new episodes, including Aneurin Barnard (1899), Anita Dobson (EastEnders), Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper), Michelle Greenidge (It’s a sin), Jonathan Groff (Manhunter), Bonnie Langford (Doctor Who (1963)), Genesis Lynea (Silent Witness), Jemma Redgrave (Doctor Who (2005)), Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Indira Varma (Game Of Thrones), Angela Wynter (Last Christmas) and drag queen Jinkx Monsoon.
