Yesterday was the epic hero match at Groupama Stadium, the official stadium of Olympique Lyonnais. The charity event pitted the team UNICEF (composed of former footballers as well as celebrities) at the team OL Legends (composed of legendary OL players, but also several influencers and other athletes). Throwback to this crazy match and its highlights!
What is the Hero Match?
It is a charity event with the aim of raising, through donations, as much money as possible for Unicef, which acts worldwide to protect and defend the rights of children. The event, broadcast on L’Équipe as well as Domingo’s Twitch channel, was the second edition of the hero match series, the first having opposed OM to Unicef. This time, it was the legends of OL who took part in this unique concept! On the team side, there were a lot of people.
A mythical team that brought together legends of the Lyon team like Anderson, Cris or Caçapa for a return to the past. Other athletes like Tony Parker or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were also there. As for influencers, Domingo, Zack Nani or even Jhon Rachid were able to realize their dream and set foot on the lawn of the Olympique Lyonnais stadium.
Faced with the legends of OL, the Unicef team held firm. Among them, former footballers like Samir Nasri, Laure Boulleau, but also Ludovic Giuly. Rappers (Naps, Fianso, Jok’air) as well as influencers (Michou, Inoxtag, Just Riadh) were also present for Unicef.
The game of heroes
Kick-off was given at 8:30 p.m. yesterday and all the players were ready to fight! The icon for this match has been Sonny Anderson, who, from the first minutes of play, managed to get some great chances. The Unicef team defended itself very well because it was very offensive in this first half, marked in particular by the actions of Michou or even Inoxtag, as always overexcited.
At the end of the first half, the score was still 0-0, but the donations for Unicef were already monumental. It was in the second half that everything accelerated. Firstly, Domingo and Zack Nani, who said they would only come into play when the €25,000 donation threshold was reached, were finally able to join the field in the colors of the OL Légendes team.
It was also during this phase that Sonny Anderson opened the scoring by scoring a spectacular goal in the 69th minute! The OL Légendes team therefore took the lead by leading 1-0.
A score that will not change until the end of the match, and the victory therefore went to the OL Légendes team. On the donation side, no less than €482,490 was collected for Unicef! A colossal sum which will mark this new edition of the hero match and which shows us once again that, for a good cause, viewers can mobilize and surprise us every time.
For Domingo as well as for Zack Nani, this event was the realization of a childhood dream. Domingo being a great sports fan, he had recently completed a Paris-Roubaix with Inoxtag. He has now played a match with legends of French football in one of the most prestigious stadiums in France. Impressive isn’t it?
