US President Donald Trump (74) accepted his party's nomination in a speech in front of the White House at the end of the Republican party congress and will officially run against Joe Biden (77) in the presidential election campaign. In the speech, he focused, among other things, on attacking his challenger and referring to his own successes.

At the beginning of his speech, he thanked his family, including his "incredible daughter Ivanka (…) and all my children and grandchildren", whom he did not directly name.

Trump also spoke about his late brother Robert, who died in New York in mid-August at the age of 71. "I know that my brother Robert is watching us from the sky," said Trump. Robert was a "great brother" – and also "very proud" of how well everyone involved is doing their job.

"With a heart full of gratitude and boundless optimism," Trump accepted the nomination. According to media reports, around 1,500 guests were there, shouts of "USA! USA! USA!" The guests sat tightly together, many of them not wearing protective masks. It is also considered taboo to campaign on the White House grounds.
