Don’t be left with a broken iPhone 12 speaker: Apple fixes it for free

Apple has identified an issue that affects the speaker grille of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. In the event of a problem within 3 years of purchasing your device, the brand undertakes to repair it free of charge.

Do your friends think you’re deaf because you don’t understand anything they say to you on the phone? It could be that you are the victim of a technical problem. In 2021, Apple announced that it had identified a manufacturing defect in certain iPhone 12s and iPhone 12 Pros that could mute your device’s speaker during certain calls. On August 19, 2022, Apple updated its repair program so that authorized centers repair affected iPhones free of charge for 3 years.

Several ongoing repair programs

According to Apple, only the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021 are affected by this quality program. The iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max are not eligible. It is better, therefore, not to have an audio receiver problem with these devices. If this is already the case at home, then go quickly to an Apple Store or an Apple partner to have them repaired during the legal warranty period (the first year by Apple, the second year by the retailer).

Other repair programs are currently offered by Apple. The most common are the AirPods Pro, which often sizzle over time. Apple has a machine that can identify the problem and, if so, replace your headphones for free. There is also the famous MacBook butterfly keyboard, again replaced free of charge.

Since April 2022, Apple has also offered a site where you can order parts yourself to repair your products. However, repair is usually risky and expensive. The best, when possible, is to go to a certified store, such as an Apple Store.
