Presented on Monday July 4, the Xiaomi 12S range will only be launched in China, with no marketing planned in the rest of the world and in particular in France.
This beginning of the week was marked by the announcement, on Monday July 4, of Xiaomi’s new range of premium smartphones, the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro and 12 S Ultra. Three smartphones that stand out in particular for the inauguration of a new partnership with Leica, while the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with a 1-inch main photo sensor.
However, while one would have hoped that the smartphones would be launched outside of China in the coming weeks or months, as is often the case with Xiaomi devices, in the end it will not be.
In a July 4 tweet, Engadget journalist Richard Lai shared a statement from a Xiaomi executive that leaves little room for doubt:
“Xiaomi will offer Xiaomi 12S Series exclusively in Mainland China. Our Strategic Partnership in Imaging Technology will have long-term impacts beyond the scope of this series, into Xiaomi’s international markets.”
So we will have to wait until Xiaomi 13 for Leica goodies.

No launch planned in France
Concretely, the three new Xiaomi smartphones presented this week are therefore not planned for an international launch, not even in Hong Kong, and should therefore only be available in China. This could be explained by a marketing decision on the part of Xiaomi as well as the lack of certification by Google. Remember that smartphones launched exclusively in mainland China are not certified by Google, which is absent from the country, and therefore do not benefit from Google Play mobile services. It will therefore be complicated for users wishing to import a Xiaomi 12S Ultra to be able to use it fully in France in the absence of these mobile services.
We asked Xiaomi France to find out if the three new Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro and 12 S Ultra were planned for sale in France. The French branch of the manufacturer confirmed to us that their marketing was only planned in China, specifying that it had no visibility as to a possible long-term availability of the three devices in France. No launch of the devices is therefore on the agenda in France.
