Don’t throw it away: How to use used FritzBoxes for better WiFi

A good Internet connection is particularly important in the home office – after all, a shaky connection for video conferences and the like is annoying and uncomfortable for the user. In particular, if there are a few doors or steps between the router and the end device, the WLAN often becomes a problem.

Owners of a FritzBox from AVM can use a simple trick – all you need is an old FritzBox, which has the so-called “repeaters” function supported.

To be on the safe side, the old FritzBox should be reset to the factory settings at the beginning. To do this, the router must be connected to the computer via LAN or WLAN – if there are complications with the connection, you can disconnect the new FritzBox that you are using for your Internet connection from the computer for a short time and then reconnect it.

After a successful connection, open your browser and type http://fritz.box in the address line. Now look for the items in the menu System > Backup > Factory Settings > Factory Settingsload and confirm.

It is then advisable to check the FritzBox that has not been used for a long time for new firmware updates. To do this, click System > Update.
