Gameplay of Doom 4 clearly shows different gameplay

The legendary shooter series Doom is best known for its fast and bloody firefights against dangerous monsters. However, the YouTube channel Noclip is now showing that this is the case never released Doom 4 might have chosen a completely different path.

The short gameplay snippet shows how a soldier sneaks through a sewer and encounters a monster there. Even though the protagonist carries his signature shotgun, the scene conveys an unexpected atmosphere for the series. That Monster behaves almost like in a horror game, it runs along the ceiling and hides from the player behind a corner. The menacingly swelling music only reinforces this mood. The video also shows a few seconds of the melee system that would have been used in Doom 4.

Doom 4 just wasn’t enough Doom

Ultimately, the darker and quieter atmosphere may actually have contributed to the fact that Doom 4 never came out. In an interview with IGN, one of the developers explains that Doom 4 wasn’t a bad game, but failed to capture the core elements of Doom. (Source: IGN)
