The thesis of natural death seems privileged at this time. An investigation has been opened and an autopsy should be performed within a week.
A man died, Sunday January 9 at the end of the morning, in a cell of the police station of Bergerac (Dordogne). The man, born in 1966, had been taken into police custody the day before for a domestic violence case and was to be tried on Monday January 10 before the Bergerac criminal court as part of an immediate appearance.
It was when they brought him his meal tray that the police noticed that the man was unconscious, according to information from France Bleu confirmed by “South West”. They would then have lavished cardiac massage on him until the intervention of Smur (emergency medical service), but the man could not be revived.
The Bergerac prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the causes of death. It was entrusted to the judicial police. An autopsy of the body should be performed within a week. “We are probably heading towards a natural death”, according to the deputy prosecutor Charles Charollois who seems to rule out the thesis of police violence.
“The arrest was quiet, the custody went very well. He was heard in the morning and it was planned to extend his custody until the hearing ”, specifies the magistrate.
