The first three episodes of the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” have been released. In it, Doria Ragland, Duchess Meghan’s mother, speaks for the first time in an interview about her view of things.
Doria Ragland, 66, the mother of Duchess Meghan, 41, and mother-in-law of Prince Harry, 38, is making her TV debut for the first time. The social worker was first interviewed in the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” and gets her little moment in the second episode of the six-part series.
Doria Ragland: “I want to talk about it…finally!”
Probably nobody is as close to the Duchess and the Duke of Sussex as Meghan’s mom. She was the only guest from Meghan’s family to attend their wedding on May 19, 2018. The former “Suits” actress could always count on her when she couldn’t count on her father Thomas Markle, 78, and he repeatedly spoke to the press about his daughter and disappointed her humanly. In Meghan’s life, Doria is her rock in the surf and her biggest supporter. Until now, Ragland has never faced the press publicly and spoken about her child. Now she is making her TV debut in the documentary and wanted to speak. “I want to talk about it…finally…my experience as her mother,” says Ragland, summing up:
“The last five years have been intense”.
You can tell Doria Ragland’s nervousness in the short interview and you can quickly feel how much she is moved by the story of her daughter and son-in-law. At some points she struggles with her emotions.
Meeting Prince Harry
And how is it when the future son-in-law is not only a fairy tale prince, but also a real royal?! A situation that probably not too many parents get into. Doria Ragland knows how it feels when your daughter is dating a prince and the difficulties that can come with it. “We spoke on the phone and she said, ‘Mom, I’m dating Prince Harry! Don’t tell anyone!'” From the start it was said that nobody should know about the relationship, which is a difficult start for a young love per se , where you actually want to shout your happiness out into the world. Not so with Prince Harry and the former Meghan Markle. Everything was done in secret, allowing young love to thrive away from the press.
“And then I met him,” said Doria Ragland with a cheeky grin on her face.
Doria was immediately drawn to the prince’s presence and was delighted at what a great man her daughter introduced to her. “There was this tall, handsome, redheaded man with great manners. He was very nice. They seemed happy together. He was the one.” But when the relationship became public, the media hunt was opened. “Then when word got out that they were dating, it seemed like big news.”
