Dota 2: Valve announces the cancellation of the first Major of 2022

This is no surprise given that many events are affected by cancellations in this winter, like the Capcom Cup, and the LAN playoffs of the ALGS or the All-Star on LoL. Valve has also taken the measure of the health crisis which is starting again and announces a cancellation of the first major of 2022 on Dota 2, the event that was to put an end to the winter split of Dota Pro Circuit 2021-22. The current season will therefore resume with the spring circuit (Qualifier, League then Major), between March and May.

The competition is therefore slightly reworked to compensate for this cancellation, explains the organizer in a press release.

As there will be no major tournament, Round 1 will end after all regional league tournaments have ended. Players who participated in the Fantasy will receive their rewards before the start of Round 2.

The teams participating in the DPC earn points by playing in their respective regional leagues as well as by participating in international competitions during the Majors. As the first Major is no longer taking place, we have decided to redistribute his points to the second and third Majors. In this way, the balance of points between the regional game and the interregional game remains the same. Points will be distributed as follows:

Major 2:

• 1st place – 680 points
• 2nd place – 610 points
• 3rd place – 530 points
• 4th place – 460 points
• 5th / 6th place – 385 points
• 7th / 8th place – 240 points

Major 3:

• 1st place – 820 points
• 2nd place – 740 points
• 3rd place – 670 points
• 4th place – 590 points
• 5th / 6th place – 515 points
• 7th / 8th place – 360 points

For now, the rest of the DPC is not changed but Valve may eventually make other changes. In the meantime, the teams are arguing the regional championships until January 23, 2022.
