Just a few days before the start of CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Samsung obviously couldn’t wait to announce the screen that had caught the eye of many gamers since AMD mentioned it last November.
Samsung Odyssey Neo G9
When presenting its RDNA 3 graphics cards, AMD insisted on support for DisplayPort 2.1 and 8K image definition. He took the opportunity to indicate that Samsung was already working on a monitor in this format, before quickly specifying ” horizontal 8K “.
Indeed, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is not really an 8K monitor, but with its definition of 7680 x 2160 pixels, it is impressive. We could therefore speak of “8K horizontal” to use AMD’s formulation or simply announce its precise definition.
Samsung has opted for a 32: 9, ultra-wide panel, which amounts to placing two 4K monitors side by side. The slab is curved – the radius of curvature is 1,000R – and the technology used is the quantum mini LED with a matte panel to limit reflections.
It is of course a question of support for DisplayPort 2.1 alone capable of offering the necessary bandwidth, especially since Samsung mentions a refresh rate of 240 Hz. We bet that we will know more soon… The price in particular raises questions .
Samsung Odyssey OLED G9
Along with this announcement, Samsung has confirmed the release of a new, more modest Odyssey model. The Odyssey OLED G9 relies, as its name suggests, on technology quantum dot OLED which offers control that Samsung advertises “ pixel by pixel “.
The OLED of course allows a practically infinite contrast on this screen which amounts to placing two monitors quad-HD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) side by side for a total resolution of 5,120 x 1,440. Samsung insists on the response time of 0.1 ms and the refresh rate of 240 Hz.
The South Korean does not, however, detail the price or the launch date of its monitor, which will integrate applications from partners such as Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube. The Samsung Gaming Hub will also be there to allow gaming via Microsoft or NVIDIA cloud systems.
