Double infanticide near Nancy, a mother in police custody

A chilling drama. In Drouville, near Nancy, a mother was arrested on Tuesday evening after killing her two young children, aged 9 months and 2 and a half years. She was taken into custody.

The 35-year-old woman first assaulted her husband with a hammer on Tuesday morning. The latter, slightly injured, went to report the attack to the gendarmerie on his return from the hospital, where he had gone to be treated. When he returned to the family home, he then realized that his companion had disappeared.

The public prosecutor, François Pérain, told AFP on Tuesday evening that the young woman had come in the afternoon to pick up her two children from the crèche. The gendarmes, who initially sought to locate her without success, managed to arrest her a few hours later, when she had returned to her home to look for her daughter’s stuffed animal, stating that it was necessary that she is “buried with”.

It was then that the police discovered the two lifeless bodies of young children in the passenger seat of his car. According to the first findings of the medical examiner, they were suffocated, but an autopsy will have to be performed to confirm this.

The gendarmes found writings in her car indicating that the young woman intended to commit suicide. They would therefore have arrested her before she took action.

“She was arrested and placed in police custody, but for the moment she is silent,” said François Pérain.
