Doubly fooled: This vacuum robot shows you how to wipe brilliantly

With a vacuum cleaner robot you save a lot of time and every now and then a little helper can avoid discussions about family housework.

However, many vacuum robots have two weaknesses: they often have to be cleaned, which is a laborious task, and their wiping function leaves a lot to be desired. “Damp wiping” in rooms with tiles or parquet is almost more important than the suction function.

Deebot’s new flagship puts an end to that with a number of interesting new features. The X1 Turbo uses two large textile pads to clean smooth surfaces – almost like a real mop. And the docking station is designed to automatically switch water and clean the interchangeable mops.

The X1 has voice control and understands commands like “Clean the hallway”. His surveillance camera keeps an eye on the apartment and pets.

The new components in action: wiping and vacuuming in one

The two cleaning mops rotated at 180 revolutions per minute and were moistened using a water container. This tank is automatically refilled in the docking station. The station offers two 4 liter water tanks – one for dirty water and one for clean water. Enough supplies for the wet cleaning of 360 square meters. The Ecovacs has up to 260 minutes to do this, as the large battery with 5200 mAh lasts that long.

The docking station not only shines with a chic design – a draft by the Jacob Jensen Studio. It also ensures good hygiene: it automatically cleans the two textile pads and dries them – with a stream of air. This avoids bacteria and bad smells.

A special feature of the new Deebot X1 Turbo are the new textile pads, which guarantee particularly good wiping performance – and are automatically washed and dried in the docking station after each use.

The suction power is also outstanding. In its function as a vacuum cleaner, the device achieves up to 5000 pa thanks to a new motor from Nidec, a higher value than all previous Ecovacs devices. You can vary this suction power in four levels of strength, there are also three levels to choose from when wiping – or you can simply rely on the automatic surface recognition.

The path is the goal: complex obstacle avoidance

The Deebot uses a high-resolution camera for navigation, which can provide a live image if required. It is supplemented by a so-called DtoF sensor for depth detection, which even works in the dark and can measure distances precisely.

The bot uses the new obstacle avoidance AIVI 3D to avoid chairs, cables or mats. A sensor detects stairs and prevents a fall. It can even be used all-terrain to a certain extent: it can not only overcome steps between rooms with a height of up to two centimeters, but can also clean them.

The docking station not only charges the vacuum robot, it also cleans the mop pads. Thanks to the large capacity, replacing the two water tanks is only very rarely necessary.

There is also navigation software with True Mapping 2.0. It creates a map of the living area even in the dark, which you can later save and edit using the free Ecovacs Home App. Thanks to object recognition, the bed, television and sofa appear automatically, as do doors and floor types – but small objects such as cables and socks and shoes lying around are also identified.

Here you can plan and monitor cleaning here via a 2D view, a complex 3D view is also available. By the way, the system takes care of your privacy, the data protection functions have been certified by TÜV Rheinland.

Voice assistant YIKO helps with the housework

Another strength of the system is a standalone language assistant called YIKO. This speaks German and supports far more commands than Siri, Google or Alexa. After the activation command “Ok, YIKO”, you can activate many functions of the docking station by voice command and command cleaning jobs in natural language. Do you want the robot to just vacuum under the bed or sofa for a short time? A short voice command is enough.
