In the early hours of the New Year, the New Year’s Eve celebration for residents of Gußriegelstrasse in Vienna’s 10th district escalated into a violent confrontation. The new year was only 20 minutes old when a violent fight broke out in which a group of young people and a father and his son were involved in a physical argument, as a “Krone” reader reporter described. In the video you can see how the men literally attacked each other, hitting and kicking each other with their feet and fists. The tumultuous confrontation caused a stir in the neighborhood, which actually wanted to enjoy the festive atmosphere of the New Year. “The father had an injury to his head. He has a bleed on the left side of his forehead,” the reader reporter told the “Krone.” Police arrived after 15 minutes. When a police patrol arrived at the scene after about 15 minutes, everyone involved had already left. The background to the confrontation remain unclear for the time being, but according to initial information there were supposed to be verbal arguments beforehand. The group of young people present and the father and his son are said to have gotten involved in heated discussions that ultimately turned into physical violence.
