“Dr. Death” is based on Wondery’s true crime podcast of the same name, in which Laura Beil deals with bumbling doctors who have dangerously put their patients’ lives at risk. Season 1 was about US neurosurgeon Dr. Christopher Duntsch, who is responsible for the deaths of numerous people and has been in prison since 2017.

The second season of the Peacock series will cover the third season of the podcast series “Miracle Man”. This is about the case of Paolo Macchiarini (Edgar Ramirez). The charming surgeon is known for his innovative surgeries, which earned him the nickname “Miracle Man”.

When investigative journalist Benita Alexander (Mandy Moore) gets in touch with the doctor, his framework of lies slowly collapses on him. As a result, doctors around the world are mobilizing to question the groundbreaking discoveries of the “miracle doctor”.

Edgar Ramirez (“The 355”) plays the role of Italian surgeon and researcher Paolo Macchiarini in the new season of “Dr. Death”. Also starring Luke Kirby (“The Marvelous Ms. Maisel”), Ashley Madekwe (“Revenge”) and Gustaf Hammarsten (“Midsummer’s Murder”).

The newest casting members are actress Rita Volk, known from the MTV series “Faking It”, Judy Reyes aka Carla from the medical series “Scrubs”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Jack Davenport, Annika Boras (“Bull”) and Sandra Andreis (“Quick Money”).

Season 2 of “Dr. Death” was created by showrunner and writer Ashley Michel Hoban (“The Girl from Plainville”), who previously worked on the series. Patrick Macmanus (“Homecoming”), showrunner of the first season, will again be in charge of the new episodes. Todd Black (“Servant”), Jason Blumenthal (“The Man from Toronto”), Steve Tisch (“Cassandro”), Taylor Latham (“LOL – Laughing Out Loud”) are executive producers, along with Aaron Hart (“Springfield Story “), Hernan Lopez (“WeCrashed”) and Marshall Lewy (“Little Stories Everywhere”) for Wondery and Linda Gase (“Switched at Birth”).

As the US magazine “Deadline” reports, Jennifer Morrison (“This is Us: Das ist Leben”) and Laura Belsey (“The Walking Dead”) will share directing work on the series. Morrison is set to direct episodes one through four and Belsey will direct episodes five through eight. The studio behind “Dr. Death” is UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
