Game news Dragon Ball Sparking Zero: this is what we like, but also what worries us
The Game Awards 2023 ceremony offered us a wave of trailers, each one as attractive as the last. Among them, that of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero particularly caught our attention.
Serving as the fourth installment in the Budokai Tenkaichi fighting game series, community and editorial expectations for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero! are large. Will the game offer content that matches its predecessors, or will it disappoint us like some Dragon Ball games? We answer these questions in our JV Debate.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero!, what is it?
This is surely one of the most anticipated games by the anime fan community since its announcement at the Game Awards 2023. The colorful trailer surprised everyone and already promises a lot. It takes the form of a 3D fighting game in the Dragon Ball universe and offers a large cast of playable characters based on the different series taken from Akira Toriyama’s work, from Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball Super . Although it doesn’t have a release date yet, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero! has been in development for over 5 years and looks very promising.
What do we think?
After the mixed reception of the last NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS, the next DragonBall title is causing debate. Relaunching a well-known franchise is not always a good idea if it is not executed well. In our JV Debate, we find the two visions that divide the community. On the one hand, Nagla does not understand the fans’ concern, because the first images shown pleased all the players and there is, for the moment, no reason to worry. On the other hand, Kaname is quite doubtful about the success of the project, because of the recent video game releases based on manga.
It is true that the latest games based on anime were not necessarily good quality, as Kaname explains in our JV Debate. We can watch the last one My Hero Academia: One’s Justice Or NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS to understand that part of the community has given up on the matter. So according to some, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero! will be no exception to the rule. ‘But, as said in our JV debate, Dragonball is surely the only manga in which several video games appealed to the greatest number of people. We even had the right to one of the best fighting games of recent years with Dragon Ball Fighter Z.
