Since 1986, several animated feature or medium-length films related to the Dragon Ball universe have appeared: The Legend of Shenron (1986), The Demon’s Castle (1987), The Mystical Adventure (1988), In pursuit of Garlic (1989), The Ice Robot (1990), The Fratricidal Combat (id.), The Namek Menace (1991), Cooler’s Revenge (id.), One Hundred Thousand Metal Warriors (1992), The Offensive Cyborgs (1992), Broly the Super Warrior (1993), The Space Mercenaries (id.), Dangerous Rivals (1994), Super Warrior Attack! (id.), Fusions (1995), Attack of the Dragon (id.), The Army of the Red Ribbon (1996), Battle of Gods (2013), The Resurrection of F (2015) and Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2019).

Note that there are other animated titles such as The Father of Songoku, The Story of Trunks or the little-known The Saiyan Eradication Plan and Dragon Ball GT: 100 years later, as well as live action films (Dragon Ball, The Legend of the Seven Crystal Balls and the very poorly received Dragonball Evolution). Finally, there are also OAVs, including the one on Vegeta’s brother.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the second feature film from the Dragon Ball Super series, itself chronologically located after Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z and before Dragon Ball GT. This new film also follows at Dragon Ball Super: Broly released in 2019, which had been a major commercial success with 115 million dollars in revenue worldwide (for an estimated budget of 8 million).

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was originally scheduled for release on April 22, 2022 in Japan. The feature film was pushed back due to a hack that took place on March 6 of the same year at Toei Animation. In a press release relayed and translated by Hitek, the production studio gave some details:

“As previously reported, Toei Animation, which produces the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, which was scheduled for a Japanese release on Friday, April 22, 2022, has suffered unauthorized access to its servers/network by a third party, which makes the release of the film complicated.”

“Therefore, we have no choice but to postpone the release of the film. We apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the release of the film. We will announce the new date soon. Thank you for your understanding.”

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is directed by Tetsuro Kodama. This is his very first experience as the main director of a Dragon Ball feature film. He has previously worked on the series Ganbare! Lulu Lolo – Tiny Twin Bears and Gen’ei ibunroku #FE video game. On the other hand, the scenario is always signed Akira Toriyama, creator of the manga.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Reveals Ultra-Powerful New Son Gohan Transformation: “Son Gohan Beast [Bestial en VF]”, allowing him to return to the forefront (we all remember his exploits during his fight against Cell in Dragn Ball Z). Akira Toriyama confided:

“Gohan had a few transformations in the past, but this time he had to awaken a whole new one! He reached his own unique evolution, based in a way on this awakening that he had already experienced when he was younger.”

“That’s why I called him ‘Son Gohan Beast’. It echoes the fact that he awakened the wild beast in him. For his design, I first tried to draw him with a scary face and pale skin, but I didn’t think it looked too much like Gohan anymore.”

“Instead, I went for something more classic with the slicked back hair. And to my surprise, it looks great. Everyone said, ‘That’s really cool.'”
