Dragon Quest XII and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake: Yuji Horii finally gives development news

In May 2021, during the presentation for the 35th anniversary of the license, Square Enix had unveiled several games Dragon Quest. The most expected is the one who showed himself the least, we are obviously talking about Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fateco-developed by the Creative Business Unit II with the help ofHexaDrive And Orca, of which we ultimately only saw a logo. The other one that interests us and that we also haven’t seen since is Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which showed itself well with a tasty trailer to present to us this overhaul which is primarily intended to be visual. In both cases, no platform had been formalized.

The creator of the license Yūji Horii gave an interview to Famitsu in August during the World Cosplay Summitwhich was published this Monday and of which a passage in particular interests us now, translated by Gematsu. Obviously, the question of the progress of the development of these two projects was asked to him, in addition to his role on Dragon Quest Monsters: Prince of Shadows.

  • What is your involvement in the development of Dragon Quest Monsters: Prince of Shadows, Mr. Horii?

I participate in game testing, verifications, etc. However, I supervised thoroughly and made revisions from the beginning. After all, the start of development is crucial.

  • Is your involvement in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Prince of Shadows similar to your involvement in Dragon Quest III HD-2D and Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate?

It’s pretty much the same. Well, as for Dragon Quest III, I’ve made this game once before and I know a lot about it, so I’ll give advice like: “If you want to change this, you should do it this way. »

  • What is the development status of Dragon Quest III HD-2D and Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate?

Dragon Quest III HD-2D is progressing quite steadily. As for Dragon Quest XII, I still can’t say much.

  • All three titles, including Dragon Quest Monsters: Prince of Shadows, are highly anticipated by fans of the series.

We’re working on a variety of things, so I hope everyone can continue to look forward to them.

It is therefore rather reassuring regarding the remake of Dragon Quest III, although a two-year period without a new preview seems a long time for such a project, especially since it already seemed to be in an advanced stage of development when it was announced. On the other hand, this wooden language concerning Dragon Quest XII will clearly not reassure the players. Let’s hope that once Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai And Dragon Quest Monsters: Prince of Shadows went out, Square Enix finally begins to actively communicate on these two projects.

The latter is available for pre-order on Amazon at the price of €59.99.
