Drama in a nursing home in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes): a resident throws herself out of the window, the accusations are heavy: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

There are deaths that no one should know about. This is the case of this resident of the Sophie nursing home in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes) who died on August 23, 2023 at the age of 80. According to the police investigation, the old lady defenestrated and was killed instantly as the newspaper explains Var Morning, Sunday September 10, 2023. His death has since given the strength to other residents and their families to testify about the reality of their daily lives. In a letter received by the editorial staff, we learned that the low quality of care and mistreatment are commonplace in this establishment. “Medicines are poorly distributed, not distributed or given to any other person. For the visually impaired, we sometimes find the pills on the ground. Some residents sometimes wandered the halls in their nightgowns, looking for help, and some families were forced to wash themselves!”it was reported in the letter.

An exceptional meeting has been announced

The anonymous author then continued: “Families and residents demand the right to be respected, listened to, and not verbally attacked. We deplore that this nursing home has not been operating for several months.”. Relatives of residents, contacted by the newspaper, agreed to substantiate the facts on condition of anonymity. “At the beginning of the year, they fired the former director, and a lot of staff left the establishment with her. Since then, there are more and more problems, at all levels : the staff, sometimes temporary and understaffed, speak poorly to residents and there are medication errors every day!”. According to another anonymous testimony, the form of the residents of this nursing home has deteriorated considerably over the past few months: “My mother’s health has deteriorated, she lost ten kilos and no longer rides a bike, although one day she found a caregiver who was napping on his bed!”. Following numerous testimonies, the EMERA group, owner of the private establishment, convened a exceptional meeting Tuesday September 12, 2023 with the relatives of the residents, as explained by our colleagues from the newspaper The Dispatch. The accusations against the establishment have not been proven by the courts.
