Drama in East Tyrol – Biker (50) hit by Zug and fatally injured

Any help came too late on Monday afternoon in Strassen in East Tyrol for an Italian (50) who was out on a mountain bike! While crossing a level crossing, he was hit by a train and thrown to the ground. The emergency doctor could only determine the death of the man.

The tragic accident happened around 3:40 p.m. The 50-year-old rode his mountain bike on a local road in the municipality of Strassen in the Hof district of Mittewald, coming in the direction of Sillian. At the same time a multiple unit was traveling from Tassenbach in the direction of Mittewald. At an open level crossing with traffic lights, the Italian drove into the intersection immediately in front of the train.

Thrown to the ground
“The man was caught by the railcar and thrown to the ground,” said the executive. The 50-year-old suffered fatal injuries. Once the surveys have been completed, reports will be drawn up for the Innsbruck public prosecutor and the Lienz district authority.
