Tragic accident on Friday afternoon in the Tyrolean Flirsch (Landeck district): A 24-year-old kayaker had to watch helplessly as his father (58) was trapped between two stones in the Trisanna and finally drowned.
The two Germans set out around 2 p.m. for a kayak tour on the Rosanna in the municipality of Flirsch. According to the police, the 58-year-old capsized after a short drive and then swam with the current. Then the accident happened with a water roller: the father got his foot caught between stones at the bottom of the river and could not free himself. Son could not save his father pull strong current. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t. Finally, the 24-year-old made an emergency call. However, this came too late: the 58-year-old was pushed under water and drowned. The rescuers were initially only able to secure the dead man. Only after they had lowered the water level of the Rosanna by closing a weir system could they rescue the casualty – around two and a half hours after the accident. The relatives are now being cared for by the crisis intervention team.
