Terrible accident around 5 p.m. in Schalchen (Upper Austria). A train from the Mattigtalbahn hit a car. The vehicle was dragged for around 300 meters and was badly damaged. One person – said to be a woman – could only be rescued dead.
On the unbarred level crossing on Schulstrasse, the driver may have overlooked the approaching regional train. Her vehicle was hit on the passenger side and dragged around 300 meters. Fatal injuries The volunteer fire departments from Mattighofen and Schalchen were quickly on site to rescue the driver from the wreckage. The victim had already succumbed to her serious injuries. The train driver and passengers were not injured in the accident.
