Drastic measures – Strikes are threatening in four hospitals in Carinthia

The KV negotiations between the religious hospitals in Carinthia have been dragging on for months. Now the pressure is increasing – the staff is threatening to stop work if fair and satisfactory results are not finally achieved.

In August last year, the funding catalog for the collective agreement negotiations of the religious hospitals in Carinthia was presented. “These are not just limited to nursing, but also all professional groups, from doctors to physiotherapists to psychologists. Since then there have been six rounds of negotiations. The new KV should have come into force in January. In fact, so far there have only been vague verbal promises,” says Theres Marschnig, works councilor at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Klagenfurt, which is affected alongside the Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy in St. Veit as well as the Waiern Hospital and the Spital de La Tour in Treffen. Five specific points are required: In addition to a paid break and changing time, the crediting of previous service periods is required. There should also be a sixth week of vacation and the pay should be adjusted to the Kabeg scheme. “It cannot be the case that there are equivalent employees in different salary groups and several hundred Euros less per month,” says Marschnig. For this reason, the staff is now threatening to stop work. A works meeting will first take place on Thursday, in which the employees will be informed about the current status and strike decisions will be made. Finally, on January 22nd the seventh KV negotiation is over: “If the result is not satisfactory, there will be a strike in all four houses on January 29th. “Patient care is of course guaranteed,” it is assured.
