At the GDC 2023, Epic Games shows what dream graphics are possible with the Unreal Engine 5. This is what future video games look like.

The Game Developers Conference runs until March 24, 2023 in San Francisco/USA, where the focus is primarily on the development of video games.
Publisher Epic Games used this stage to present news about the Unreal Engine, such as an Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and to show impressive videos in its own show called “State of Unreal”.
Impressive jungle excursion
A tech demo for Unreal Engine 5.2 is sure to have mouths watering for developers and game fans alike. The Rivian R1T electric pickup is shown driving through a beautiful jungle environment.
Epic Games introduces “Substrate”, a new tool for displaying materials, and demonstrates this innovation by replacing the vehicle’s paint color with Opal. When zooming in, the lighting effects, textures and reflections come into their own.
Also featured is a new video for Ninja Theory’s upcoming game Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. While it’s quite short, it shows how beautifully human faces can be rendered in games.
With high-resolution textures, a lot of details and beautiful lighting effects, the anticipation of the new Lords of the Fallen game for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is sure to increase.
There is also a gameplay demo for the Unreal Engine for the game Infinitesimals. The developers praise the engine’s features and emphasize how much easier they find development.
