Drinking coffee protects skin from aging, new study finds

A study conducted by scientists at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing demonstrated the benefits of coffee on the skin. It would help slow down aging.

While we often think of it as too exciting, irritating to the stomach or responsible for migraines, coffee is in reality a drink full of benefits, if consumed at the right time of day and in the right quantities. For example, we recommend not drinking it on an empty stomach, not overly sweetening it or not consuming it too late in the day. According to a study published in the journal “Journal of cosmetic dermatology”*, drinking coffee even has a very beneficial impact on the skin and would slow down aging.

The team of researchers demonstrated that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties Coffee “can protect skin senescence”, that is to say the degradation and aging of our skin cells. In vivo studies have proven the beneficial effects of coffee extract on “hydration, elasticity and collagen and elastin content”. According to this same study, green coffee oil has been proven to “stimulates skin fibroblasts” which has a very positive impact on its firmness and the prevention of the appearance of wrinkles.

How much coffee should you drink each day to benefit from its benefits?

It is important to listen to your body and detect certain signals. If you feel contractures, stress, stomach aches, this is certainly a sign of an overdose. In general, the dose of 2 to 5 cups of coffee per day remains a quantity well tolerated by a wide range of people. As for the quality of coffee, Doctor Pierre Nys, an endocrinologist and nutritionist whom we interviewed, recommends choosing the least roasted coffee possible: “The more the coffee is roasted, the more we reduce the antioxidants it contains”. According to him, green coffee is the one who is the most rich in antioxidants because it is little or almost not roasted.
