After his arrest by customs officials on Saturday January 15 at the Gare de Lyon in Paris, a 43-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday January 21. The narcotics brigade is in charge of carrying out further investigations.
Where did the drug come from and who was it intended for? To these two questions, the man, described as skinny and in a precarious situation, did not wish to answer. He was placed in customs detention before being transferred to the premises of the narcotics brigade of the Paris judicial police where he was placed in police custody, reports Le Parisien.
As a reminder, the individual was about to take a train towards Aix-en-Provence in the Bouches-du-Rhône when he was apprehended by the police. They discovered in his suitcase a total of 58 kilos of cocaine, loot amounting to 1.9 million euros and estimated at 3 million euros at the retail resale price in the street.
Paris, a drug hub
This seizure is exceptional because it occurred in a large Parisian station and demonstrates that the capital is also a hub for the drug markets in the provinces. Cocaine arrives in the Paris region by sea, locked in containers which land in Le Havre in Seine-Maritime, Belgium or Holland. Drugs can also land at Orly airport in Val-de-Marne.
