First restyling for the old DS 7 Crossback which becomes DS 7. On the restyling side, the grille goes to XXL and the light signature is more “expressive”. There are now 3 PHEV engines and a diesel.

Released in 2017, the DS 7 Crossback left its “bling-bling” mark on the world of SUVs. After five years, DS Automobiles launches phase 2 of its SUV which for the occasion abandons “Crossback” to be simply called DS 7 E-Tense. This name change is accompanied by a restyling with a grille that goes to XXL. It extends to the bumper, in a design made up of lines on its lower part.

But this grille would be nothing without the light signature – more expressive – which takes the appearance of fine lines literally engraved in the shields, under each front headlight. This is the DS Light Veil technology inspired by the work carried out on the two concept cars DS X E-Tense and DS Aero Sport Loung”.

In concrete terms, the DS Light Veil consists of a daytime running light and four vertical light lines made up of 33 LEDs. Beyond the technological prowess, it is the manufacturing process that holds the attention. Thereby, “the laser-engraved polycarbonate surface is painted on the internal surface only so as to give it an alternating appearance of light and painted areas in body color“says DS Automobiles. We dare not imagine the cost of replacing the bumper…

As for the DS Pixel Led Vision 3.0 headlights, the manufacturer claims that the light output is more powerful, with a range of up to 380 meters on high beam. When the SUV is traveling at less than 50 km/h, the width now covers 65 meters. Cornering lighting is required with intensity management depending on the angle of the steering wheel.

The rear part is intended to be more discreet, with reduced chrome parts, while retaining the characteristic design of the rear lights. But the most obvious change therefore remains the disappearance of the “Crossback” logo in favor of the name “DS Automobiles”.

What characterizes DS vehicles is the quality of the interior materials. The main material, leather, covers the cabin from floor to ceiling, including the dashboard. Several colors of leather, decorations and finishes are available.

The 12-inch touch screen, whose pages are fully customizable and mobile, displays a menu in the form of widgets, while the new graphics allow the display of “all essential information such as the energy flows of the plug-in hybrid versions“.

What does not change is the infrared night vision system (DS Night Vision) as well as the suspensions controlled by the front camera (DS Active Scan Suspension).

Plug-in hybrid engines and a diesel

Under its hood, the DS 7 E-Tense offers the choice of three plug-in hybrid engines (225, 300 and 360 hp) or plugin (PHEV).

If the 225 hp is made up of a 180 hp petrol engine and a 110 hp electric motor, the 300 hp and 360 hp 4×4 versions are equipped with a 200 hp petrol engine coupled to two 110 hp electric motors. hp and 112 hp. The three engines incorporate a battery with a capacity increased to 14.2 kWh allowing a purely electric range of 65 km (WLTP mixed cycle), or even 81 kilometers in town. Charging time is about two hours on a 7.4 kW terminal.

Finally, note that a diesel version, BlueHDI 130, will also be offered in the catalog, while petrol engines (Puretech 130, 215 and 225 hp) will only be available outside of Europe.

Manufactured in Mulhouse for versions intended outside China, the new DS 7 E-Tense will be available for pre-order from July 11 for the French market, for deliveries from September 2022.

This new DS 7 E-Tense affirms a new more distinct design, without losing its luxurious side. The 360 hp PHEV (same powertrain as the DS9 and the Peugeot 508 PSE obviously) turns out to be interesting, even if the 65 km of pure electric range looks a little weak compared to the competition.
