Changes have been made to Archie's birth certificate. Who is responsible for that? Palace insiders contradict Meghan's statement.

Prince Harry (36) and Duchess Meghan (39) apparently cause confusion far from their new home California. Buckingham Palace denies, according to The Telegraph, the Duchess of Sussex's claim that her son Archie's birth certificate (1) was subsequently changed to comply with "royal protocol". The fact that the word "dictated" was used in a statement by the Sussexes was described by a palace insider as "unhappy" according to the report.

The fuss about the birth certificate had started with a report in the British newspaper "The Sun", which published an alleged copy of the original document. It was said that the first name of the Duchess, "Rachel Meghan", had been deleted from the records a few weeks after Archie's birth. What remained were their titles: "Your Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex". A spokesman for Meghans said, according to the US site "Page Six": "The name change in public documents in 2019 was dictated by the palace, (…). This was not requested by either the Duchess or the Duke of Sussex."

Why was the certificate changed?

The royal insider told the Telegraph that there was no such instruction. The anonymous source from the palace assumes that the new Sussexes employees in the US may have misunderstood something. The Duchess's statement "raises more questions than it answers," criticized the royal family's employee.

"Mail Online" quotes another royal insider with the claim that the subsequent change to the birth certificate was allegedly made in June 2019 by Harry and Meghan's employees at the time – "to ensure that the Duchess' name and title match other private documents."

Harry and Meghan's son Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and his birth was recorded on May 17. The name change is said to date from June 5th. "The Sun" had speculated about why this had happened. Among other things, it was interpreted as a homage to Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997). During her lifetime she had used the address "Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales". A possible swipe towards the British royal family was also suspected. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were no longer working members of the royal family as of April 2020 and live in Montecito, California.
