Meghan and Harry ended their second day in Nigeria with a traditional reception. The Duchess provided glamor.
On the second day of their three-day trip to Nigeria, Prince Harry, 39, and Duchess Meghan, 42, were invited to a glamorous reception for military families and widows at the Ministry of Defense in Abuja on Saturday evening (May 11). The couple cut a glamorous figure in coordinated white linen outfits.
While Prince Harry combined his classic cut cream white linen suit with a white shirt and black tie, Duchess Meghan chose a strapless, fitted white maxi dress. The Duchess of Sussex had her hair loosely pinned up.
At the start of the reception, the British national anthem “God Save The King” and the Nigerian anthem were played. Afterwards there was a traditional dance performance and some wounded soldiers had their say. A new rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers, to be opened in collaboration with the Invictus Games Foundation founded by Prince Harry, was also unveiled at the reception.
Nigerian politician raves about Meghan
In a speech, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairwoman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, mentioned Duchess Meghan’s Nigerian roots. When she found out about it, she was “excited, but not surprised.” “Because she is beautiful, intelligent, diligent, hard working and remains resilient in the midst of challenges.” Addressing Harry, she said: “You married the best – our daughter, our friend, Princess Meghan. We hope you come back, again and again.”
Finally, Daribi-Erewa presented the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with traditional Nigerian Aso-Oke outfits. The “People” magazine said the politician: “They are an incredible couple. They are humble, down-to-earth and they look so good together. The love is there, you can feel it.”
For Harry and Meghan, the three-day stay in Nigeria is the first major tour since the two stepped down as senior members of the royal family and moved to the USA in 2020. They live in California with their two children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 2.
