Royal fans and equestrian sports enthusiasts are looking back to Ascot these days and admiring the styles and performances of stars and the British royal family. The legendary horse race is taking place for the first time since the death of Queen Elizabeth, †96, with King Charles, 75, as monarch. There was another premiere in 2018: His son Prince Harry, 38, visited the event for the first and only time with his then newly married wife Duchess Meghan, 41.

A great honor was bestowed upon the Sussexes at the time. They were allowed to accompany Queen Elizabeth on the opening day of Royal Ascot in the county of Berkshire. Other royals such as the then Prince Charles, today’s Queen Camilla, 75, Princess Anne, 72, and Princess Eugenie, 33, were also part of the party. But of course it was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who drew everyone’s attention.

Royal Ascot race week has always been under the auspices of royalty and opens each year in mid-June with a carriage parade, once led by the Queen. In the car after that sat Harry and Meghan in 2018, accompanied by Prince Edward, 59, and his wife Countess Sophie, 58, now Duchess. Duchess Meghan appeared in a white dress by the French label Givenchy. Apparently she liked the fashion house because her wedding dress was also made by the same luxury brand. Maybe it was a tribute to their first month of marriage?

Meghan and Harry were married in Windsor on May 19, 2018. Despite her elegant choice of clothes, another woman managed to compete with her in terms of fashion: Queen Elizabeth arrived in a sunny yellow suit that put everyone in the shade.
