Suits creator Aaron Korsh has revealed that the British royal family had an influence on the series’ scripts.

Aaron Korsh (56) has in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter” about the television series “Suits” he developed and one of the stars of the legal series. Duchess Meghan (42) acted as Rachel Zane from 2011 to 2018. On the occasion of her engagement to Prince Harry (38) in November 2017, she announced that she would leave “Suits” after the end of the seventh season (2018). But even before she left, her husband’s family is said to have influenced her work in front of the camera.

Fear of word changes

“The royal family has spoken out on a few things. Not a lot of things, but a few things that we wanted to do and couldn’t do and that was a little jarring,” Korsh explains of the influence. He remembers a specific example that involved a specific line of dialogue. “My wife’s family uses the word ‘Poppycock’ when they have an issue to discuss that might be sensitive. Let’s say you wanted to do something you knew your husband didn’t want to do but you did at least discuss it, and by just discussing it, it’s not binding, you’d be saying, ‘It’s Poppycock.'” [Unsinn, Quatsch, papperlapapp; Anm.d.Red.].

As a nod to his in-laws, Rachel was supposed to say in one scene, “My family would say Poppycock.” “The royal family didn’t want her to say that,” says Korsh. “They didn’t want to put the word ‘Poppycock’ in her mouth. I guess because they didn’t want people editing it to mean ‘cock’ [Penis, Anm.d.Red.] says. So we had to change it to ‘Bullshit’ and I didn’t like it because I told my in-laws that ‘Poppycock’ was going to be on the show.” However, he also felt some sympathy and understanding, “because I didn’t either wanted someone to do that to her”.

Korsh doesn’t know how the Royal Family got the scripts. “I was only aware that they were reading them because I had received the feedback, but I don’t remember the process by which they received it.” Meghan did not give him the feedback. “It could have been the producer at the time who was directing, or their agent. Whoever it was, they didn’t like having to tell me any more than I did hearing it.”
