There are currently no trains running from St. Margrethen on the line from Zurich via St. Margrethen SG to Munich, as the SBB writes. Rail traffic from Zurich via Schaffhausen to Stuttgart is therefore restricted from Schaffhausen. The route between Kreuzlingen and Konstanz is also interrupted.
The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) currently does not run any trains between Chur and Arosa or on the Albula line or in the Engadine. The RhB reports that replacement transport is only possible to a very limited extent.
According to Deutsche Bahn (DB), the onset of winter in southern Germany caused delays and train cancellations. The DB assumed that the disruptions would last until at least 12 noon. According to SBB, the Konstanz-Kreuzlingen TG route was also interrupted on Saturday morning. There were no trains running.
German rail travelers spent the night on trains
The persistent snowfall and icy conditions had already led to traffic disruptions in southern Germany. Several railway lines around the city of Munich were closed. According to Deutsche Bahn, travelers had to spend the night on trains.
According to the Bavarian police, there were numerous accidents on the roads. Around 150 flights were canceled at Munich Airport on Friday due to the onset of winter. The weather service has issued a severe weather warning for parts of southern Germany as it expects persistent and sometimes heavy snowfall until Saturday afternoon.
