Actually, it was only supposed to be dinner. A young Chinese woman meets a man on a blind date in the metropolis of Zhengzhou. Because he offered to cook for her, the date takes place at his apartment, although she didn’t know him before. While the two eat, the district is cordoned off due to the spread of the corona virus. The young woman is stuck with an unknown man, as reported by the newspaper “The Paper” from Shanghai.
In the report, the woman is only called Wang. According to her own statements, she is actually from Guangzhou, but traveled to Zhengzhou for a week to find a man to marry. “I’m getting old, my family introduced me to ten acquaintances,” she is quoted as saying in “The Paper”. The fifth date was just about to show her his cooking skills when the lockdown was imposed on the district of the metropolis.
“He’s as dumb as a wooden doll”
Because Wang was stuck at the home, she decided to share her experience. On the Chinese social media platform WeChat, she posted videos showing her host cooking and doing housework. And she talks about her impression of the man: “Apart from the fact that he is dumb as a wooden doll, everything else is pretty good.” She is also not particularly enthusiastic about his cooking skills: “His food is average, but I think it’s great that he cooks at all.” Because the man in the videos doesn’t come off particularly well, she later deletes them.
The blind date didn’t turn into a romance
According to reports from the Chinese media, Wang is said to have stayed in the man’s apartment for four days. A romance did not develop between the two.
Zhengzhou imposed the lockdown with only around 100 corona cases in one week. China is pursuing a zero-Covid strategy, which means cities are locked down as individual cases of coronavirus emerge. (rsp)
