Dune 2: we know the length of the film… and it’s the longest in Denis Villeneuve’s career

As the public slowly prepares its suitcases for the return trip to Arrakis scheduled for February 28, 2024, the official duration of Dune: Part Two has just been revealed. Good news: the film promises to be an imposing adventure… and the longest of Denis Villeneuve’s career. Just that.

A new record for Villeneuve

According to information from the Japanese film classification body, relayed on the social network Dune: Part Two will therefore last 166 minutes, or 2 hours and 46 minutes.

A generous sequel, which is 11 minutes more generous than the first opus. The film also marks a new record for director Denis Villeneuve, as it becomes the longest feature film of his career.

The duration of Dune: Part Two thus exceeds those of its already massive Blade Runner 2049 (2h43), Prisoners (2h33) and therefore Dune (2h35).

Dune 2: good news for fans of Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster

A duration which seems to match the stakes of this second part, in which Paul Atréides will rally to Chani and the Fremen to wage a vengeful war against the Harkonnen. More stakes, action and spectacle, as the film’s trailer confirms.

Co-written by Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) and Denis Villeneuve, and directed by the latter, the film features a cast of big names.

Alongside the usual Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem, this one notably sees the arrival of Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken.

Dune 2: the co-creator of The Last of Us series writing the blockbuster

Initially expected in theaters on November 1, 2023, the film saw its release postponed by five months due to the strike in Hollywood.

Dune: Part Two is now scheduled to hit theaters on February 28, 2024.
