Although Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill are an important part of the royal family, they are hardly mentioned in the annual report for 2023 that the Swedish court has now published. While Madeleine is only mentioned in one place, Chris is completely silent.

The distance between Princess Madeleine, 41, Chris O’Neill, 49, and the Swedish royal family are not only geographically (still) large; The annual report for 2023, which has now been published, seems to once again emphasize the gap between the Florida-based princess and the rest of her family.

Princess Madeleine is considered by the court – Chris O’Neill is ignored

The Norwegian royal family published its report for the past calendar year a few days ago, and the Swedish royals are now following suit: a 28-page document was published on the royal family’s website on April 29, 2024, looking back on the past few months. In addition to memories of the jubilee of King Carl Gustaf, 78, the court is primarily disclosing the finances of the royal family – and for the third time in a row, more transparently than was the case a few years ago, as the Swedish publication “Svensk Damtidning” emphasized. Those interested can read how the royal family’s total assets are distributed among the individual members.

While the royal couple, Princess Victoria, 46, Prince Daniel, 50, Prince Carl Philip, 44, and Princess Sofia, 39, are of course mentioned, the finances of a sibling remain under wraps: Madeleine is only mentioned in a single place in the annual report. “Princess Madeleine continued her commitment to the World Childhood Foundation as honorary vice president and member of the foundation’s board,” the court was quoted as saying by the “Svensk Damtidning”. Chris O’Neill, on the other hand, finds no place in the royal family’s final report – and for a good reason.

Forget? On the contrary! Madeleine and Chris didn’t work enough for the royals

The couple, who still live in Florida, are hardly mentioned in the Swedish royal family’s financial report because Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill hardly or not at all work for the court. According to the Swedish publication, it is King Carl Gustaf himself who distributes the appropriate allowances to his family members. To do this, it is based on the tasks that Crown Princess Victoria or Prince Carl Philip take on on behalf of the crown. Princess Madeleine has few of these obligations, and Chris O’Neill actually has none. It remains to be seen whether this will change with the planned move to Stockholm.

According to the annual report, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, 80, received around 8.5 million Swedish crowns, the equivalent of around 723,000 euros. Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel had around 4.8 million Swedish crowns at their disposal, the equivalent of around 406,000 euros. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were allocated around 1.2 million Swedish crowns, around 99,000 euros. In total, the members of the royal family were allowed to manage an amount of around 14.4 million Swedish crowns, the equivalent of around 1.2 million euros. This essentially corresponds to the amounts from previous years.
