Announced during Gamescom 2022, Dune: Awakening take advantage of the Game Awards to give a life-size preview of what’s to come on Arrakis. Funcom indeed returns to present its open-world survival MMO with a first video taken from the pre-alpha.
In Dune: Awakening, players will have many things to do to ensure their survival. Alongside thousands of other players, they will have to face countless dangers but also search for water or build shelters to withstand storms. And of course the main objective, to take control of the spice at the highest levels on the planet.
Indeed, spice is at the heart of everything in Dune: Awakening. It governs conflict, leads to progress, and empowers those who control it. That’s why wherever the spice appears, players band together and engage in merciless combat, ranging from simple skirmishes to grand battles with infantry, vehicles, and ornithopters.
But the Arrakis Desert is vast, and will leave plenty of possibilities for players, as well as paths to discover. It will thus be possible to opt for the exploration of unknown terrain aboard an orni, or even to equip yourself with advanced armor and deadly weapons to become a mercenary. Without forgetting to be well seen by the Great Houses of the Landsraad in order to gain influence. In summary, there will be many opportunities for players who venture into Dune: Awakening.
