After the “Rust” tragedy, Dwayne Johnson draws conclusions. There will be no more real firearms on his film sets.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (49) wants to do his part to make film sets safer. After the fatal shot at the “Rust” set, the Hollywood star will no longer allow real weapons in his productions. The 49-year-old explained that in an interview with the US industry portal “Variety”. While shooting “Rust” a shot had accidentally been fired when Alec Baldwin (63) was rehearsing with the gun he was given. Halyna Hutchins, 42, was fatally injured.

Johnson said he would switch to dummies with his own production company and do the rest in post-production: “We won’t worry about the dollars. We won’t worry about what it costs.” He also explained about the accident during the “Rust” shoot: “I’m heartbroken. We have lost someone. My heart is with her family and everyone on the set. I have known Alec for a long time.”

Rethinking Hollywood?

Since Hutchins’ death, there have been increasing calls to ban real firearms on Hollywood sets. An investigation is ongoing to determine how live ammunition could get into the gun that Baldwin fired. The assistant director had handed it to the actor and explained that it was a “cold gun” without live ammunition. The production employee later stated to the police that he had not checked the weapon closely enough.
