Improving the comfort of hairdressing professionals
After the Supersonic Nural last week, it’s the Supersonic r’s turn to get people talking. This new hair dryer first surprises with its curved design. And its surname is not chosen at random since this Supersonic simply adopts the shape of an “r”. With a completely redesigned format, it is the smallest and lightest hair dryer offered by Dyson. On the scale: only 325 g. Currently, no hair dryer in our comparison matches this result.

This new format, the Supersonic r, owes it to Dyson engineers and their desire to improve comfort of use and reduce the appearance of musculoskeletal disorders, common among hairdressing professionals. Indeed, repeated styling and drying favored the appearance of arm pain or carpal tunnel syndrome. For greater ergonomics and maneuverability, the Supersonic r was born with a reduced weight and a shrinking format, making it easier to reach different areas of the head.

If the design of the hair dryer is transformed, Dyson wants to maintain the performance of the original Supersonic and stick to its mantra: avoiding thermal damage to our hair. Engineers have integrated Dyson’s flagship motor into this new model; this is why the diameter of the device does not change. Also, the “r” retains a sensor capable of controlling the temperature of the air flow nearly 20 times per second, according to Dyson.
On the other hand, a new continuous flow heating technology is emerging. To suit the “r” format of the Supersonic, the heating element adopts a curved shape, smaller and lighter. Composed of “symmetrical sheets which form a suspended circuit” this technology would offer better temperature homogeneity, regardless of the tip used.

These tips have the ability to remember the previous settings chosen to put them in place automatically. Of course, the hairdresser can also adjust the device himself using three controls located near the thumb. In total, the professional can juggle between three blowing powers and four temperature levels, including a cold jet.
For professionals interested in the Supersonic r, it will be on sale from the end of April. Hoping that the model will quickly be democratized and open to all audiences.
